I'm on the market for a mixer right now that I'm hoping to use with Ableton Live. I'm working on a multi-instrumental live performance set that will involve a lot of looping, so i'm looking to use the mixer for two separate purposes:
1) Taking in inputs from various mics/instruments into separate channels in Live.

2) controlling the output from the various channels in live (AKA being able to directly control Live's software mixer with this hardware). In the amazon page for the Behringer Xenyx 1204USB and x2442USB (http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-XENYX-1 ... this mixer only allows two separate tracks recording at the same time, meaning the USB will only do TWO assigned TRACKS - like having two audio sources recording to your computer. the mixer will of course perform as mixers do and mix all inputs to a single audio output via USB onto a single track; as long as you're not expecting each input to have its own track on your software then you will be fine. do not confuse the 'two tracks' comment, the mixer will do as expected just dont expect every input to be on its own track.
For point 1) of what I'm trying to do, this will not be an issue, since I won't have more than one instrument being recorded at a time. That said, will my second point be possible to achieve? Will I be able to have different channels in Live's mixer correspond to the different hardware inputs? Behringer Xenyx Qx1002usb Driver
If not (or if so, but somebody thinks I'm not going down the best route possible here), can somebody recommend any alternative mixers that are portable, connect via USB/firewire, and are comparably priced? I'm just starting out my (hopefully lengthy) music career and can't afford any really nice mixers.Best, and thanks for reading through this,
Sami
